RV Campervan Dodge Ram Promaster - LUXURIOUS & MODERN
2016 Dodge Ram Promaster 2500
159 WB DIESEL High Roof
69,000 miles (diesel engines run for over 500,000 miles when properly maintained)
I wanted to build another van with all the knowledge I accumulated from the road. I took the floor plan from my original van and improved it based on “everything I would change” if I ever built another van. I put the fridge at eye level; I lowered the bed; I created a dedicated work/dining area; I added a jump seat with seatbelt for friends and family trips; I added even more outlets and storage; I put heavy duty drawers in the garage; I made the van ultra stealth… AND I fit it all in the standard 159” model! We designed this van with no windows to be the ultimate stealth van. The fan and solar panels are low profile so it’s very hard to tell this van is a camper. You can enjoy privacy and solitude as you can camp in the city and no one will know you’re living in your van. Having no windows also makes for better temperature regulation. If you have your mind set on windows…no worries! We can easily add as many as you want. But this van isn’t just for city camping! The inside has all the features you need to boondock off grid for 1-3 weeks at a time.

This van runs excellent! It has a low 60k miles and we did a comprehensive inspection and maintenance service the engine when we bought it. I love the diesel engine. The 2500 is powerful and it’s front wheel drive so the turning radius is amazing. I also find that front wheel drive gets stuck far less often than rear wheel drive. It provides more power than the gasoline engine, gets better gas mileage and it has a much longer lifespan. A diesel engine will go for over 500,000 miles when properly maintained. This is an automatic manual or “computerized manual” which means it has all the benefits of a manual transmission, but there is no shifting involved. The computer shifts for you! Brakes and tires are in very good condition. All servicing, plus wheel balancing and tire rotating has been performed. The van has keyless entry, power door locks, power windows, power mirrors, bluetooth, rear backup camera, backup sensors and touchscreen display. Cosmetically the van is in very good condition.
You should never run out of power with this setup. First, the 400w solar setup easily runs the fridge, lights, fan, water pump and charges phones, laptops, etc. However as a bonus, we have also installed a 60amp DC/DC charger/isolator and wired the cabin battery so that it charges while the van is driving. We have also added a 30a shore power outlet for additional charging capabilities. These three symbiotic charging options (combined with the water heating system we have installed) make it very difficult to run out of power.

This plumbing system uses essentially zero electrical to heat your water. We use a special state of the art Isotemp water heater that diverts the coolant from your engine to a heat exchanger that heats water as you drive. The water will stay hot for two days after you drive for about 30 minutes. If you aren’t planning on driving for a while, you can bypass the coolant system and heat the water using your electrical system. This water heating system saves on using your battery unnecessarily and allows you to live on a smaller battery bank.

We employ our own unique insulation system that provides the best possible temperature regulation available. It involves sound deadener, thinsulate, an air gap, Low-E reflective later, another air gap and then the wall. We have researched, tested and experimented and this is the best possible insulation system that we have found. We also rivnut all firring strips into the van. We do not use self-tapping screws. It is a lot of extra labor to do the insulation and wall paneling this way, but we think that insulation and temperature control is the most important part of the build.
