Advice from a Vanlife Expert about things to think about when designing your van

Most people who are in the discovery phase of their vanlife journey have never spent a day, week or month living in a van. They have also never built out a van. Sometimes it helps to get advice from someone who has "been there, done that". Josh Theberge has over five years living in a van. Most of that time has been as a full-time vanlifer. Josh has also built three personal vans and has built or overseen the build of twelve additional vans for other people. Josh is also an owner and co-founder of Vanlife Outfitters, the top online resource (store, blog, video library) that supports DIY and small professional builders.

In this session, Josh will go over things you may not have thought about when transitioning from a home to a micro home. He will also list and discuss all of the things he changed when building his second van and his third van. Josh will also talk about what he recommends people think about when designing their van based on needs and lifestyle.

Meet the Speaker.

In 2016 Josh sold his successful real estate investment business, his waterfront Miami condo and most of his possessions to build out a camper van and travel the world. At the start of the pandemic he put his travels on hold and started Vanlife Outfitters with his friend Zach Daudert (more on Vanlife Outfitters below). Since the start of 2020, Josh has sold his first van, and been a part of over 15 van builds, including two additional personal vans.

Vanlife Outfitters is designed with both DIY and professional van builders in mind. We’ve converted many vans ourselves and have curated the best products that are not readily available – from one-of-a-kind products to the best appliances and components we use on our own vans. We also have blogs, videos, wiring diagrams and tons of other resources that make the process of building out a van less stressful.
