I like to have my panel low profile with the ability to lift it to clean underneath or, if necessary, make the most of a low winter sun.
On my latest van van I created a simple system using stainless steel door hinges and a couple of angle brackets to attach my solar panel to the van. It uses components anyone can get hold of so much more useful than the method in the previous ebook versions.
This exclusive video tutorial will give you the detail you need to do the same.

Bringing the cables inside
I used a junction box with a hole cut in the bottom to take the cables from the solar panel into the van. Depending on your van (and your solar panel) this can sit underneath the solar panel. It should be glued this on with ample amounts of sealant.
Additional Cables
I needed to buy a couple extra cables to reach my solar charge controller. The cable type you will probably need to search for is 'MC4' cables.
I bought a 3m pair of cables with the connectors already attached.
